The Magic of Disneyland

Disneyland Railroad

Walt Disney loved trains… I’m not going to use the “obsession” word here, but he built a train in his back yard.  How many people do you know with a train in their back yard?  Of course, how many people do you know with a back yard big enough for a train?  Things that make you go hmm….

Anyway, the Disneyland Railroad is the first ride you come to when entering Disneyland.  As a ride it’s a little ho hum, but it’ll take you from one area of the park to another without wearing out your shoes.  The Disneyland Railroad takes about 20 minutes to circle the park, and it stops in Main Street, U.S.A., New Orleans Square, Mickey’s Toontown, and Tomorrowland.

The Disneyland Railroad does have a couple of interesting points, though… at one point you’ll see a diorama of the Grand Canyon, complete with wildlife and weather changes.  In another section you’ll see a Primeval World diorama.  This one contains swamps, volcanos and lots of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures.  I rode the train at the Magic Kingdom at The Disneyworld Resort, and there weren’t any dioramas.  I was a little disappointed.  Granted, they’re not a thrill a minute, but they make a sedate train ride a little more lively.
